Adventure Awaits

When I decided to re-evaluate virtually everything in my life a couple years ago, I set a goal to know my priorities, and then live them out to the fullest of my ability.  First priority: my kids and my family. As I have managed to navigate in life, I realize there is nothing more important. Then, for me and my husband, the top of the list is adventure. Adventure can be right in your own backyard, or a world away, but we were going to do everything we can to make adventure a focal point of our lives.

The last 18 months has given us all a moment to pause and evaluate what is important. If you are like me, in that time I have had some existential moments; I wonder what it all means. The world has been intense and overwhelming. I go back to what matters at my core; in my heart; what gives life the richness I seek. It is an adventure with my kids. Day to day adventures are the core, but the world is big. I find the more I see of it, the more life has meaning. You see we are all humans, doing the best we can to survive, take care of our families and build a rich life of meaning and love. The old adage of people being the same but different everywhere has so much truth, and the more I see of the world, the more I treasure this and seek to enjoy as many people in their places as I can… not to mention the majestic natural beauty that covers this planet.

People say to me often, “I am kind of jealous of all your travel.” Admittedly, this year on an international level turned out to be extra special as we went to Peru in April (but that was supposed to be our 2020 trip), and now we are off to Costa Rica.

When people say this, I launch into my speech about how they can do it too. A few years ago, Mike and I decided that we were not going to let this life pass us by and we were going to make travel a priority, especially because our kids were young; we can take them and build lasting bonds and memories. When talking with these people, I tell them how we budget for it, how I find the best deals I can by constantly reading travel blogs, and finding the best places to get the best information. Rewards cards are a must. I book cheap airline tickets at un-godly times (I tell Mike, they get us there all the same and he used to love to be up at 2 a.m.); earlier this year I made my family wash dishes by hand for 4 months when our dishwasher went out. (In my defense, I wasn’t going to pay for a new one when it was still under warranty and parts were delayed). Point is, adventure is a priority in our budget, and that’s how we make it happen.

Everyone has thing, maybe it's a new boat, outdoor adventuring, cars or you get 10 Amazon boxes a day (you know who you are). We choose adventuring. Find what you are passionate about, and set the intention to make it happen and then go for it, that is what matters!

So if travel is your thing and you want to set the intention to make it happen, do it! I love talking about travel, especially travel planning, as I find it to be a challenge to solve and there are a million options. With the right information and planning you can make it happen.

So while my book is moving into the final stages, and beyond, this blog will serve as a platform for the adventures of my little crew.  Ones right in our backyard, to the ones another world away. Setting our intentions on finding the richness in life, learning how big the world is, and pushing those limits to share how we are all connected in this current moment. Living a rich life.

And a disclaimer… I am great at writing content, but not great at copy editing (Let’s just say I know my strengths and weaknesses at this point). These posts are on the fly and convey where I am authentically at the moment, so spelling and grammar, well sometimes they go on vacation too :). I have spent enough of my life trying to be perfect, these days I am just trying to be me.
